The Network
A network you already belong to.
Every member is a verified ABU graduate. That single rule is what makes everything else work.
The University’s alumni, finally in one place.
For sixty years, ABU’s graduates have organised themselves the hard way — class-set groups, branch meetings, reunion committees, address books that go stale. The Network is the permanent version: one verified profile per graduate, one directory of the whole community, and the tools your set and chapter have always needed.
It is run in partnership between Ahmadu Bello University and the ABU Alumni Association, and it is free to join.
What you get as a member.
01
A verified alumni identity
Your degree, faculty and class year, confirmed against University records and carried on a profile you control. A public badge you can cite anywhere your ABU credential matters.
02
Your class set
Every set gets a permanent home: the full roster, the people who have joined, the ones still to find. Reunions start here.
03
The member directory
Search half a million careers by name, set, faculty, city or industry. Finding people is free; contacting them is always on their terms.
04
Mentorship and access
Office hours, Q&A sessions and mentoring cohorts with senior alumni — structured, so generosity is given on the giver’s terms and reaches the people who need it.
05
Opportunities
A jobs board where every employer is vetted, no listing ever charges an applicant, and a fellow alumnus can refer you in.
06
Events and chapters
Convocation, Founders’ Day, chapter dinners, set reunions — discovered, RSVP’d and remembered in one place.
Verification
Verification, in plain terms.
Membership is confirmed against University records. Most members are verified in minutes; older records can take longer, and we say so upfront.
1
Tell us who you are
Name (including any former names), programme, faculty, entry and graduation years — matriculation number if you have it.
2
We match the records
Recent cohorts are matched automatically. If your record matches, a code sent to your phone or email completes verification.
3
Older records, checked properly
Pre-digital records may need a certificate, classmates who vouch for you, or a check with the Registry. A person reviews every such case, and keeps you informed.
4
You’re in
Your profile goes live to members, on privacy settings you choose. Documents you upload for review are deleted once the decision is made.
No unverified account ever enters member spaces. That is the whole point.
Start verificationEvery programme. Every campus. Every era.
Membership is open to graduates of Ahmadu Bello University across all programmes — undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and certificates of the Institute of Administration, Distance Learning Centre programmes — and to graduates of the institutions ABU absorbed at its founding, whose alumni predate 1962. Credentials are shown as they were earned; all of them belong here.
Current students are not yet eligible; a student pathway is planned. Recruiters and employers have a separate, clearly labelled service and never enter member spaces.
Three commitments, kept in writing.
Members only means members only
No unverified accounts in member spaces. Recruiters, staff and guests are labelled and fenced.
Your data is yours
Conservative privacy defaults, field-by-field controls, no sale of personal data — ever. The public directory shows only name, programme, class year and status, and you can opt out.
Money is legible
Giving is voluntary, asks are rare, and every fund publishes what it received and what it built.
Questions, answered plainly.
Is membership really free?
Yes. Membership is free for all verified alumni. Chapter dues, where chapters charge them, are set by chapters — not by the Network.
I lost my certificate. Can I still join?
Yes. Lost documents are common and planned for. Classmate attestation plus a Registry check can verify you; it takes longer, and we keep you posted.
My name has changed since graduation.
Verification runs on the name in your records; your profile displays the name you use now. Both are supported.
I did a diploma, not a degree. Do I count?
Yes. Credentials are labelled as earned — a diploma from the Institute of Administration has produced a Vice-President of Nigeria.
Will you send me fundraising messages?
Rarely, and you can turn them off entirely. Giving at ABU is by invitation to something worth building, never by pressure.
